The Goodsport Racing Mitsubishi Evolution VIII RS, driven by David Bongiovanni, has captured both the Performance Touring and Time Trial season championships for the 2007 race season. Sanctioned by the National Auto Sport Association, the Performance Touring series is a sprint-format road race competition held at closed circuit tracks throughout California and Nevada. The Time Trial series is a time-attack format series in which competitors shoot for the best single lap time of the day.
Both series enjoy a variety of competitors in vehicles that range from tube-frame sports racers to lightly modified street cars, all classed according to capabilities to make the competition even and fun. In Performance Touring A, Bongiovanni held off competitors in cars ranging from GT3 Mazda RX-7s to 600 Racing Thunder Roadsters. With five wins in eight races, Bongiovanni wins his fifth NASA road racing season championship and the seventh consecutive season where Bongiovanni and Goodsport Racing have scored race wins. The Time Trial A series came down to the wire with the second and third place cars still having a chance at the title coming into the last event. However, the Mitsubishi Evolution allowed the team to dominate the formidable opponents including a Nissan 350z of Team Z-Car Garage and the Porsche 911 of Neil Yonk. Goodsport Racing closes out the season with eight wins in 13 events and a TTA track record at Thunderhill Raceway.
